Seniors
Information for members of Ross on Wye Golf Club who are aged 60 and over. Any male member of the club aged 60 or over may join the seniors. An annual contribution of £5 is payable in November by senior members to cover the cost of administration and entry fees to the main competitions. Seniors activities are administered by a committee elected annually at the seniors’ AGM, consisting of:
Captain, Vice-Captain, Secretary, Treasurer, three committee members, plus the immediate past Captain.

Seniors meet on a Wednesday morning at 8.30 am for a 9am start for an informal get together when partners are drawn by the ‘ball in the bag’ method. Further informal groupings are held on a Monday and Friday to enable new members to integrate.

During the winter months October/March, the Seniors Midweek Pairs League takes place and winners’ Presentational lunch in 2011, likely to take place on WEDNESDAY March 30th. There is a winter Competition during Jan/Feb and March, which includes lunch.
Summer Matches The seniors have eleven fixtures against other clubs on a home and away basis. A notice is placed on the seniors’ notice board inviting anyone wishing to play to enter their name. The captain then selects a team from the list of names, and no less than fourteen days before the match, the selected team & reserves are posted on the board to confirm their availability. Winter MatchesOn a similar basis we take part in a Round Robin league, playing matches against Seniors of Sapey, Burghill Valley, Leominster and The Worcestershire Golf Clubs on a home/away basis. 16 players a-side. Seniors and Ladies - A popular mixed team event held in April of each year and followed by a dinner.
Competitions
The Committee undertakes the organisation of the competitions. Our Professional undertakes 2 optional sweeps, one for 2’s and another for the top 3 performers. Trevor Lane Cup A Singles match play knock out – commencing April and finalists are expected to play in Club Championship Finals day on Saturday Sept 17th 2011. Keene Cup18 holes Singles Stableford, full hcp on Weds June 1st Layton CupSingles full handicap Stableford competition played over 6 rounds during March to September inclusive. The best total of any 3 rounds is the winner.The Ernest Penn Trophy is now awarded for the best score by a Ross Senior taking part in the 6th/final round of the Layton Cup on Weds August 31st .
Eclectic Cup.
In conjunction with the Layton Cup and to maintain interest over the six rounds an Eclectic competition will operate when the best net score for individual holes over this period will count. A separate Eclectic Cup will be presented to the winner.
Seniors’ Championship18 holes stroke-play medal comp on Weds August 24th.Two trophies are played for: The Carton-Kelly Cup for best gross scoreThe Marsh Allan trophy for the best nett score. Over 75’s CupThis takes place on Friday 7th October 2011, a 16 hole stableford competition followed by lunch. Seniors’ OpenSingles 18 holes Stableford qualifier event played on July 13th and entrance fee for members in 2011 is £20 which includes a meal. There are three handicap divisions: 0 – 12 > 13 – 18 > 19 – 28.Several prizes guaranteed to visitors, plus first, second and third prizes for each division. No competitor to receive more than one prize. Captains Away Day Arranged and organised in accordance with wishes of our seniors’ Captain. Normally the day consists of a competition over 18 holes, followed by dinner and prize giving. 2 Night Tour at Aberdovey GCProposed dates -July 19th/21st 2011 Min 12/Max 16 Annual Dinner Will take place on FRIDAY MARCH 11TH 2011. This is a popular occasion when we welcome our ladies. Dinner jackets are worn.

Official handicaps are essential for all competitions and matches. The Layton Cup is a qualifying competition and an excellent way of maintaining your handicap
