The Captains 2012

                    Neville Ovens - Captain 2012/2013

           Amanda Marshall Lady Captain 2011/2012

Amanda Marshall took over as Lady Captain on Monday, 7th November and will hold the office for one year.  Amanda is married to John, who is a director of the investment management company McInroy & Wood, and has two daughters, Rowena and Frances.  A graduate of Edinburgh University, Amanda says the only use she puts her degree in English to these days is to answer literary questions in quizzes and general knowledge crosswords.  She lived in Asia for twelve years, initially South Korea where Ro was born, then Japan where Fran was born and finally Indonesia where her love of golf was born.  She was first introduced to golf as a teenager but did not pursue it preferring tennis instead.  However, when her tennis doubles partner left Jakarta, Amanda decided that it was time to try golf again, as there is nothing sadder than half of a doubles partnership!  A passion was born and the tennis racquet has stayed firmly in its cover for the last fifteen years.  Her goal is to get down to single figures and to have a lot of fun on the way.

Amanda’s charity is ‘Guide Dogs for the Blind’ and she is hoping during the year to raise enough money so the Ladies Section will be able to name a puppy with a suitable golfing name.  Fund raising events will include a ‘Longest Day Challenge’ when a group of ladies plan to golf from dawn to dusk and set the record of the most holes at Ross played in one day, and a cycling event, organised by John, which will involve cycling to all the golf courses in Herefordshire in one day.
