Team matches

The A team

The A team half way results looked quite promising, having played five lost one, won three and halved one, we were lying second to Cotswold Hills on average points scored. However four of the five matches were home fixtures and the sixth match, away to a strong team at Cirencester resulted in a heavy defeat 4/14.

Inspite of fielding a strong team at Tewkesbury Park the A team suffered another heavy defeat 2/16. Tewkesbury fielding their strongest team made the most of the home advantage not conceding any matches. The 2 Ross points came from Helen Palmer and Erika Atkins both halving their matches.Once again the result does not show how close the match was with many matches decided on the18th. The continued presence of the A team in division one next season now looks doubtful. With only three fixtures remaining two of those to league leaders and holders Cotswold Hills the A team will do well to gain the necssary points.

 The C team

The Ross-on-Wye Ladies C team has a fixture list of 10 friendly matches for 2009. They have a steady run of fixtures throughout the season. They play some clubs home and away in the same year but many of the return fixtures are annual. The clubs they play span 4 counties and include Burghill Valley, The Herefordshire, Tewkesbury Park,The Worcestershire, Lydney, Minchinhampton, Cotswold Hills,Monmouth and Newport. The latter being a new fixture. This year they have enjoyed and endured every type of weather our British summer can produce but all matches have been keenly contested and played in a friendly atmosphere, even when they have lost!

Open Competitons

Ladies Open AM AM Tuesday 4th August 160 entered. Due to the persistant rain this ended as a nine hole competition much to the frustration of everyone involved. The green staff struggled to keep the greens playable but  it did not stop raining until the decision had been made to make it a 9 hole competition.

Social Events

Social golf

Thursday 30th July saw a break in the weather and the mixed social golf was played in brilliant sunshine, on a course that was in very good condition in light of the torrential rain the day before. A full field of teams of four played best score from a man and a woman the final result saw three teams on 73 points over sixteen holes. Third place went to Val and Terry Watts and Jill and Jeff Oates, second was Alison and Chris Harvey, Dave Edwards and Pat Johnson. First was Jose and Phil Wilson and Jenny and Malcolm Thornton. Everyone enjoyed a good meal afterwards.
