Ladies’ Section

Welcome

Ross on Wye G.C. has a thriving Ladies’ section with approx 500 ladies, that includes some social members who have retired from golf.

Competitions

Tuesday is Ladies Competition day, with a time sheet, and playing mostly in twos. On average 50 ladies take part, competing for many and various cups and trophies, plus the LGU medals.

Ross Ladies are affiliated to the North Gloucestershie and District League. In a very competitive league, the Ladies have two teams, A and B, fielding 9 ladies in each, playing head to head, and visiting many Cotswold clubs. There are County Competitions and Events and one lady plays for the County Second Team.

There is also a friendly team of higher handicaps playing 4BBB matches and visiting other local clubs.

General

The Ladies’ Section has it’s own Committee headed by the Ladies’ Captain, this year being Mrs. Wilma Macnamara, and deals with everything appertaining to the ladies section.

Lady Captain’s Day is a very friendly Event and supported by most of the ladies.

Each year the Ladies’ Captain has an Away Day to a course of her choice, and the Past Captains also have a day to visit another course.

Two Coffee Mornings are held in the year, the proceeds of which help towards the Ladies’ Captains’ Charity.

The ladies are always ready to help with events connected to the club, be it flower arranging (on a weekly basis), helping in reception on open days, or ball spotting on special occasions.

There are the annual nail- biting matches against the gentlemen and the senior gentlemen.

There are ladies Bronze and Silver open days ,a Ladies’ AM-AM and a Senior Ladies’ AM - AM Spring and Autumn meetings are held

After the final Trophy Competition in October the competitions on a Tuesday are mostly fun competitions for the Winter Months where handicaps are mixed whenever possible.

In November the Ladies’ AGM is held and the new Ladies’ Captain takes over, with a fun day for her drive-in. Ladies help to decorate the clubhouse for Christmas and a nine hole comp and Christmas lunch.

The ladies enjoyed and extremely good day out on the Lady Captain’s Away day, when they took a trip to the seaside to play golf at Weston-super-Mare.
