Match reports

Seniors Xmas Competition

The weather, dry and sunny, played a major part in the successful annual Seniors Xmas competition. In addition an excellent course prepared by Rob Wilband and his team made it an an enjoyable event.

56 participants took part with the winner Dave Every (39) just holding off Graham Chick (38) and Pat Curtis (36) The over 75’s prize went to Gerald Turner (38).

The Seniors Captain Tim Rigden, who supplied Hot mulled wine during the event, presented the prizes and thanked everyone for participating.

The President Lou Whitton and Chairman Mike Cooper attended the excellent Xmas meal that followed the event, which was supplied by Club caterer Trevor Griffiths.

Layton Cup

The second round of the Layton Cup was played at Ross on 2nd May. This is a six round Stableford competition where the best four results are accumulated to find the overall winner. 87 seniors participated on Wednesday with Mike Ludlow being the runaway winner with 44 stableford points. The CSS of the day was 68 and therefore Mike shot four better than his handicap of 24. This will no doubt be reflected in his new handicap!

Senior Matches

During the last two weeks Ross Seniors have proved more than a match for local rivals. After a hard won drawn game away at Hereford good home wins were recorded against Broadway and Lilleybrook and an away win at the lovely hilltop course at Stinchcombe.

Seniors vs Ladies

The Seniors versus Ladies match is never without interest. This year 26 Ladies against 26 Seniors once more produced a contest of skill and diplomacy. Ladies Captain, Wilma Macnamara, was happy to see her team perform with some panache and win five games. Whilst, Senior Captain, Terry Savage, was even happier to win not only the top match against Wilma and her vice Hilary Parrott but also to see eight wins recorded by his team. Terry praised his partner, Club President Lou Whitton for good support in this close encounter.

Ross Seniors continued to excel against local rivals. A trip through The Malverns to Droitwich promised another hard game at that pretty Worcestershire parkland course. And so it proved but again Ross triumphed and secured a 4 1/2 to 2 1/2 victory.
